THE FRANK CAVALLARO STORY

Frank is a Montrealer who went to Pius Ninth High School and then took Social Sciences at Champlain Regional College in St-Lambert. After getting his D.E.C., Frank attended University of Ottawa where he got his B. A. in Communications in 1980.

It was in the capital city that he got the radio bug. Frank went on-air at CHOR radio campus at University of Ottawa. He became involved with programming and promotions and realized that broadcasting was the field he would pursue. He was in limbo for about seven months after graduating while his demo tapes were travelling across Canada trying to land him a job.

The big phone call came in early December 1980, when Frank was offered an afternoon drive on-air position at CJCW in Sussex, N. B. He began on air December 20, for a whopping 600,00$ a month. He played music, read news and sports and did commercials in a town of 10 000. This was the first step in the ladder of broadcasting.

From Sussex, Frank moved to Fredericton, N. B., and from there he got a job offer in his hometown at CFCF 600 radio Montreal. In 1984, he went from Montreal to Winnipeg to work on an FM radio station as an evening announcer. Frank found it tough adjusting in Manitoba, so after only a few months, he left the Prairies with no job and headed back home to Montreal. For nine months Frank worked in a city travel agency as a travel consultant and then he got the radio urge again. Once again demo tapes were in the mail and Frank landed a job in Timmins, Ontario, for Telemedia. From Timmins he went to Orillia, Ontario, and shortly thereafter to Sherbrooke, Quebec; these were all Telemedia stations.

He spent over 3 years in Sherbrooke, when the Weather Network called Frank to work as an on-camera weather person in 1988. Frank also worked on Mix 96 Montreal and was the main weather presenter at CFCF-CTV Montreal for 17 years .He also worked as a roving reporter on Montreal Today on CFCF. You can now see Frank week-nights on CBC News at 6 in Montreal. Frank has won numerous weather awards.

Along his cross Canada Tour, Frank has worked on country stations, Top 40, MOR, A/C, handled on-air shifts plus promotions, and programming. For this Canadian Italian the story continues ...
